South Africa is often called the "Rainbow Nation. This country got its nickname because of how diverse it is. It is culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse. There are 11 official languages including Zulu, Xhosa, Afrikaans, and English. Each language represents a different group of people with their own history and traditions. You will find a mix of cultures all in this one country. Cultures are influenced by African traditions, European traditions brought by colonization, Indian culture brought by indentured workers, and even Malaysian traditions. Every part of South Africa is unique from tribal villages to busy cities. You may see traditional Zulu dances at a rural event and then go into the city and hear house music blasting at a club.
